We were told it would take about two weeks for Chet to recover from surgery. And that around day 7 to 10 it would be like starting over the recovery process because the scabs in his throat would fall off and he wounds again (gross). It was rough. Chet didn't like to take his pain medicine but he definitely needed it. He said it was too spicy. He would cover his mouth with his two little hands, and scream and cry no. We tried many methods to have him take the medicine. When we just tried to force it in, he would throw up or spit it out. I bribed him with marshmallows and that worked some of the time.
It was tough helping him eat. Two days after the surgery, I had to bribe him to even eat ice cream (for breakfast!). He just didn't want to. Once I made it even more enticing with sprinkles, he went for it. Crazy to have a kid refuse ice cream. He would eat popsicles. We bought his favorite fruit and vegetable squeeze pouches, but after a few he wouldn't even eat those.
It took maybe a little over two weeks for him to get back to eating normal food. He does not snore anymore but instead has steady, quiet breathing. He doesn't wake up in the middle of the night and come into our bed. And his nose is clear! I am so so grateful that we decided to have this procedure done, that it went well, and that it is behind us now.
