Poor Baby

Ty caught a bad stomach bug that lasted a full week.  It started last Saturday night when he started throwing up at midnight.  He threw up at least 10 times last Sunday and had the worst diarrhea.  He already has skinny little arms and legs so it made him look even thinner to me.  All week he continued to throw up, have diarrhea, and mid week he started to refuse food or drink.  He learned to say the word no to me as I offered him any food/treat that he wanted and he would say no to everything.  It was heartbreaking.  I had to distract him to get some food in him and that wasn't even successful.

I gave Ty so many baths this week.  From the weather and all the cleaning my hands are so cracked and have been bleeding.  I did so many loads laundry.  One night I held him as he fell asleep.  He woke up and threw up all over my sweatshirt.  I washed it and later realized my fitbit was in the pocket and is now broken.

On Thursday he was so weak.  He took three naps and when he was awake would lay on me and whine and say "owie."  He wouldn't play in the basement or let me read him books--things he loves.  That night I bought a new flavor of pedialyte hoping that would help him drink it.  I woke him up to try to put some in his mouth with a syringe.  He took a few but was crying because he didn't like it.  And then he started throwing up a lot.  I lost it and started crying.  I was so worried about him and it felt like he was never going to get better.

My friend Stephanie came over to stay home while Blake and Janie slept, and Eric and I took Ty to the ER around 10p.m.  They said his vitals were ok so it was up to us if we wanted to give him an IV of fluids.  I hesitated because the doctors weren't telling me that it was necessary--but Eric told me we didn't come to the ER for a sip of apple juice--and he was right because our intention was to hydrate him.  So Ty got an IV and he did great.  He only cried for a few seconds and then just watched all the people around him.  Afterwards he perked right up and started drinking all his juice and water they offered him.  He started talking more which made me notice how much he hadn't been talking all week.  I was so glad.

Saturday night he finally started acting like himself.  We formed a bad habit of watching a lot of shows this week.  Today he asked for E-I-E-I all day.  Blake and Janie were sweet to Ty and always covered him up with blankets to make him comfy for his shows.  I love how Janie is holding Ty's face and how she thinks that stripes on stripes automatically match.

This week helped me realize how much I love my little baby.

I didn't care about the mess because Ty was finally eating!

It Won't Stop Snowing

These pictures were taken a few weeks ago.  It continues to snow.  This has been the most cold winter we've been here for.  Blake has already had five snow days from school.  Any more days of school that are cancelled have to be added to the last week of school in June.

Snow Days

There has been a bad winter storm here.  I went to the grocery store on Saturday night and it was packed.  Busier than Christmas shopping time.  Sections of food were totally gone.  It kind of scared me--like everyone was panicking.  The cashier told me that he heard that this storm was going to be as bad as one in 1978.  I asked what it was like then and he said "bad."  I don't know why but I thought that was funny.  Especially since we was probably ten years younger than me and wasn't alive then.

We went to church on Sunday but the last hour was cancelled because the snow was starting to fall.

No school on Monday.  Eric made it to work but got stuck in snow in our subdivision on his way home.  He ran home to grab a shovel and when he got back to his car he said a jeep pulled up and three guys jumped out to help.  People have been so nice and helpful in our neighborhood.  I think it was -7ish degrees outside but the wind chill made it feel like -30ish.

No school today (Tuesday).  Our street still wasn't plowed this morning so Eric decided to work from home because he didn't want to get stuck again.  Whirlpool recommended that people work from home.

Day One

The kids asked me if they could take a nap so that they could stay up late that night.  I heard them yelling to come in and take pictures because they were going to nap together.  I knew there was zero chance that they were going to nap.  But it kept them busy and giggling for 20 minutes.

Day Two

The kids (Blake) has been very interested in earning money.  So on Monday they asked if they could watch Ty for one hour and earn a quarter.  They are actually good little babysitters and keep Ty busy.  I told them of some chores they could do to earn money.  One was to vacuum the basement.  Janie's job was to hold the cord for Blake.  It was so funny to watch them.  Janie just followed Blake back and forth.  They did a pretty good job!

Puzzles under table fort.

Tried making soft pretzels and they turned out great.

Ty has taken almost 4-hour naps the past two days.  I think he is growing.  He has been eating more than normal.

We had rented The Lorax from the library.  Blake and Janie wanted to watch it because according to Janie "there is a part that is propriate."  They think that inappropriate words are hilarious.  And she always laughs when she tells me that she heard a "propriate" part.  She told me when the part was on and the character said something like - 'no ifs ands or buts.'  Butts get them every time.

Here is Eric checking the mail.  You can't see it very well but he is as tall as our mailbox!

It took Eric 1.5 hours to shovel the driveway today.  Blake has been dying to play in the snow.  Eric let him today because it was 1 degree.  At least it was positive.  And tomorrow will be day three of no school.  My friend described it as the Christmas break that will never end.  I'm not anxious for Blake to go back to school though.  We are having fun even though these are long days.

Ty - 18 Months

Talking on the phone

We call him Ty Ty.  He calls Janie "Nanie" and Blake "Bap."  He wakes up every morning a little sad, and usually cries until he gets some food in him.  He screams really loud when he does not get his way.  I try to ignore it, but it is really loud.  He also started hitting but we are ignoring that too.  He loves for me to label pictures in books.  If I try to read the words he shuts the book and grabs a new one.  When it is naptime he happily goes.  I tell him to wave to whoever is in the room and he waves and smiles on his way to his crib.  He lets me sing and rock him before bed which I love.

He went into nursery on Sunday no problem.  Didn't know a person in there and just chilled.  Later Sunday afternoon I asked him if he went to nursery and he said "bubbles."  I hope that his good behavior isn't just a one time deal.  It was cute to watch him through the window.

Blake, Janie, and Ty get pretty hyper at night before bed.  They run around the house together laughing and squealing.  They dance and twirl in the front room.  Ty is a copycat.

He calls all farm animals "E-I-E-I."  He saw a picture of Jesus with some sheep at church and started saying e-i-e-i.  Today I actually got him to say cow and pig.

He likes to give a high five first followed by knuckles.  Once he does that to one person, he wants to do it with everyone in the room.

And my favorite--he calls ketchup and syrup "up."

Lots of Love

"Mom!  Quick take a picture of us!"

The hand kills me.  I'm so glad that they love Ty so much.

Grandma and Grandpa Visit!
