Tulip Festival

Yesterday we drove to Holland, Michigan to check out the tulip festival.  It was hot and crowded.  The kids saw their first parade.  They all got excited when they heard the marching band play Bruno Mars "Uptown Funk."  On our drive home we stopped to check out a ice cream play called Sherman's--it did not disappoint.  I realized that this was my first all day outing with four kids.  It was kind of a lot but I think I'm glad we did it.  The day ended with Ty pooping in the bathtub.  

Kites

Variety Show

Blake and five friends performed a choreographed dance for their school variety show.  Three boys were in front and they used their hands as feet.  Three boys stood behind and were the hands.  Blake's hands are used for the middle boy.  They put in a lot of practice and learned moves to clips of five different songs.  In this picture it is the start of "Kung Fu Fighting."  They did a great job and the audience seemed to love it.  The week leading up to the performance Blake would randomly say "I am so nervous and so excited for the variety show."  Afterwards he was talking about what he wanted to do next year.  I'm so glad he was able to be introduced to being on stage even if it was just his hands that were seen.

Little Bo Peep

Janie's preschool class performed in a nursery rhyme program.  Janie was Little Bo Peep.  She did the actions while the music played.  She looked high, she looked low.  Her classmates were the sheep.  At the end they all sang a song about how Jesus loves children.  She was right on with all of the words and actions and she had a straight face while doing it.  Cute girl.

Carrot Cake

A few weeks ago I took a cake decorating class with a friend at our grocery store.  It was so fun.  Eric was out of town so I made this carrot cake and invited some friends over.  There are four layers inside the cake and two different frostings.  I loved making it--although it did get a little messy and tricky trying to work on it with the kids around.  But I realize more and more how much I enjoy cooking, more specifically baking.  Something about it just speaks to me.

Chairs

Chet loves our kitchen chairs!  He especially likes the screws and sucks on them.  The other day I was in the car talking with Blake and Janie about birthday cakes.  We were talking about themes we have done before with cakes--especially for first birthdays.  I asked them what they thought we should do for Chet's first birthday cake--what does he really love?  Blake quickly responded "screws!"
